Playoff pressure the norm for Durbeniuk

Congratulations to Dave Durbeniuk the 2007 Junior Club Champion at the Inglewood Golf and Curling Club. The two day event, held August 15th and 16th,, required a sudden death playoff to settle the contest. On the second playoff hole, Dave holed a long putt for his victory. This is Dave's second win of the year. His first triumph came at the CJGA's Lipton Brisk Canada Cup qualifier hosted by the Highwood Golf Club this past June. Dave's playoff record is a perfect 2-2. He earned a spot in this year's Provincial Championships by winning in extra holes after a long day of qualifying at the McKenzie Meadows Golf Club.

Tarik El Ali sets personal best at McLennan Ross Event

National Sport Academy Golfer Tarik El Ali posted a personal best tournament score of 81 at the latest Sun Tour event at McKenzie Meadows Golf Club. This past summer Tarik has been focusing his practise on performance based skills that have been allowing for some lower scoring. "Skills bring scores", Ali testifies. Ali believes in reward for effort and can be found toiling many hours per day when he gets the chance. Keep grinding Tarik!

Jedrusiak and Tosczak poised for Canadian Junior

After a 1-2 showing in the juvenile division at provincial championships, National Sport Academy Golfers Sean Jedrusiak and Rhys Tosczak are among 10 Calgarians off to the National Junior Championship at Elm Ridge Country Club in Quebec August 6-10. Level-headed patient play should serve both golfers well as they compete with A-List juniors from across Canada for the National Crown. Also making the trip from Calgary are Jordan Ediger, Mark Shurer, Sean Sinclair, Brad Thompson, Brett Van Den Bossche, Jack Wesche, Mitch Wilson and Dustin Zhang. Best of luck!

National Sport Academy athletes top the leaderboard at Provincial Championships

Congratulations to Sean Jedrusiak and Rhys Tosczak who finished in first and second, respectively, in the juvenile division and sixth and fourteenth in the junior division, at the 2007 Pontiac Buick Junior Boys Provincial Championship at the Stony Plain Golf & Country Club. Kevin Kang also had an impressive showing in his inaugural provincial tournament by making the cut and holding his position, finishing tied for 17th. Both players demonstrated dramatic improvement compared to their 2006 performances. In their respective Juvenile Division, Sean improved 15 positions from T 15 to 1st. Rhys Tosczak improved 31 positions from T33 to T2. In the overall Junior Championship, Sean improved his performance from T42 to T6. Rhys moved from T77 to T14 an improvement of 63 positions!...see results

Coach's professional students showing improved form

Congratulations to Calgary resident Ken Kiem who carded a 64 at the Country Hills Ridge Course on Monday July 24th. Ken's round was one shot shy of the course record held by renowned amateur Dave Schultz. Ryan Rutherford, another local area professional, carded a 63 at Fox Hollow the following day. Ryan plans return to the Canadian tour through qualifying school this fall. Ken is scheduled to return to the Grey Goose Tour in Arizona. Keep developing your skills, fellas!

Pontiac Junior Boys Provincial Qualifying at McKenzie Meadows

Qualifying for provincial championships was held at McKenzie Meadows Golf Club on Wednesday July 3, 2007. Several National Sport Academy golfers led the way with low scoring. In the fifteen year old age group, Rhys Toszak's 72 was the low score. Sean Jedrusiak and Kevin Kang posted impressive scores, 72 and 74 respectively, to earn spots in the 16 year old age group. Jordan Traa led the way for the 17 year olds posting a 73.

CJGA Watch - Riverbend Golf Club - Red Deer, Alberta

Congratulations to NSA Golfers who participated in last weekend's CJGA event at Riverbend Golf Course in Red Deer. Sean Jedrusiak's final round of 71 vaulted him into fourth place and Jordan Traa finished the event in 11th place. Future National Sport Academy student Rhys Tosczak narrowly missed winning the 14-16 year title as his 147 total was good enough to force a playoff with eventual winner Cole Chelle of Edmonton. Matt Brown, another future student finished 20th. In the 17-19 year old age group, Dillon Robinson, Graeme MacLean and Denton Traptow all finished top 20. Traptow, with rounds of 78 - 81 had his best tournament showing to date and is demonstrating a knack for competitive play. In the junior girls division, Sierra Robotham notched a second place finish after a personal best 87 during Saturday's round. Congratulations to everyone!...read more.

MAPLE LEAF JUNIOR GOLF TOUR NEWS

The other Junior Tour in action this past May long weekend was the Maple Leaf Junior Tour. The MJT Series at Lacombe, a three day event May 19-21, witnessed a golden first for future National Sport Academy student athlete Rhys Tosczak. Playing in the 14-16 year old division, Tosczak achieved his first sub-seventy tournament round ever! Tosczak's second round of 69 and final round 79 were good enough for him to earn a second place finish. Congratulations Rhys!...results.

CLOSE FINISH FOR JEDRUSIAK

Battling frigid conditions, National Sport Academy's Sean Jedrusiak turned in a rock steady performance at the Cougar Creek Golf Resort this past weekend. Jedrusiak finished second in his age group and fourth overall at the Canadian Junior Golf Association's A-3 Junior Worlds Qualifier. Jedrusiak's final round 79, the third lowest round of the day (and lowest in his age group), was one shot shy of a playoff berth. Sean was the only player in his age group to break 80 on both consecutive days. He was one of three in the entire field to share this distinction, the other two players were in the 17-19 year old group. Congratulations Sean, great finish!...read more.

Jedrusiak finished 5th after posting an impressive win last week. Tosczak finished tied for 6th, one shot back of Jedrusiak. With a little more luck both players could have finished higher on the leaderboard. WJC INNISBROOK RESORT - DECEMBER 28-30.

Congratulations to Sean Jedrusiak who finished 15th in the 14th annual WJC (World Junior Challenge) at the Westin Innisbrook Resort in Tampa Bay, Florida. Sean handled the challenges of International competition well and has returned a more mature player. The field consisted of players from Canada, United States, Brazil, Denmark, Equador and Germany. State resident MJ Maguire of St. Peter, Florida won the event with a three round total of six over par.

Sean Jedrusiak shot 73 and 77 in the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour GEOCAN Energy Classic at McKenzie Meadows Golf Club on August 8th and 9th, to finish in 8th place.

MacLEAN GETS HOLE IN ONE

Graeme MacLean, a grade 11 golf student athlete at the National Sport Academy, shot a hole in one on Saturday, June 24th, on the 14th hole (114 yards), at Shaganappi Golf Club. Congratulations Graeme!

KNIGHT JUST MISSES U.S. OPEN

Congratulations to former National Sport Academy athlete Michael Knight who lost out in a five man playoff to qualify for the 2006 UNITED STATES OPEN golf championsip at Winged Foot. Great job Mike!

NSA ALUMNI TAKES 2ND SPOT AT WOLVERTON ALBERTA OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP

Congratulations to Michael Knight on his second place finish at the 2006 Wolverton Alberta Open Championship. The 2005 Mississippi State Bulldog and former National Sport Academy student athlete finished one shot back of the winner, after shooting a final round 65.

JEDRUSIAK SHOOTS 75 IN FINAL ROUND

Sean Jedrusiak, who will be joining the National Sport Academy for the 2006/2007 school year, shot a 75 in his final round of the A3-Mizuno North America Cup Qualifier at Riverbend Golf Course in Red Deer, to finish in 7th place overall.

CRISANTI ON THE MOVE

After tying for 11th at Paradise Canyon, Devin Crisanti notched his first top 10 of the year, enduring severe gale force winds at Land o' Lakes in Coaldale, Alberta. Devin ended the tournament in 7th place.

National Sport Academy Golf Athlete, Devin Crisanti, had an impressive placing at the first stop on this year's Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour, April 29th and 30th, at Paradise Canyon in Lethbridge, Alberta.
